I had set aside for part of the SWAP a length of black rayon jersey and decided to use it for the Hot Patterns Deco Vibe Mighty Aphrodite Draped Tee:

I purchased this pattern along with my recent order from Fabric.com It was a bit tedious to cut out...huge pieces, that had to be cut in a single layer....but it went together surprisingly easily. After puzzling out the pleats at the shoulder, it was a simple top to make. The back neck facing is sewn right into the armscyes, so it doesn't flip out, which is a nice touch. Here is the finished product:

Here is a close up of the rouching:

If I make this again, I may start the rouching higher on the side, for example, here:

To figure out the pleating at the shoulder, which I initially found confusing, I sat down with my pattern tracing and some tape and just started folding and pleating until I got it right. Basically, everything gets pulled up to the shoulder seam...there are no openings in the shoulder or gathering. Once you get it, you will smack your forehead, but I did find it confusing at first.
Here is the finished top on. Never mind the fact that I am glowing...I tried to lighten it so you could see the details of the shirt, apparently I only succeeded in making myself translucent:

Since I did not want to sew anything that I might want to use for the Endless Combinations Contest on PR, I decided that I would dive into the UFO box...and decided to finish a version of the Hot Patterns Classix Nouveau Pyramid bag that I had cut out about 2 months ago:

I had made this bag once before for my niece....from, of all things, white vinyl. What a miserable fabric to sew!! This one I made from an upholstery-weight woven in a zebra print. I used for the lining a cotton from stash, and a black twill for the handles:

Instead of velcro, I used snaps for the bellows pockets:

Here is a shot of the lining:

And here it is ready to go. Other reviewers have said that the bag is overly large, but I didn't find that to be the case...big bags are "in" right now. Plus, a big bag makes you look smaller!:

So here is where I stand with my winter SWAP, the purple ones are the ones that are finished. The ones in blue are the pieces that could potentially coordinate with the Endless Combinations plan:
- Dark heather gray wool jersey (dress)
- Wool blend flannel-Burda pants
- Periwinkle charmeuse (shirt)
- Grey/black print charmeuse (blouse with bow)
- Black and grey herringbone suiting (lined pants)
- White jersey knit-3 Graces Tee
- Purple jersey knit with diamond pattern-Butterick 5525
- Purple/ivory cotton shirting eliminated, replace with black and grey knit for McCall's 5978 twinset cardigan and New Look 6735 tee from leftovers
- Heather gray knit (shirt)
- Silk Tweed suiting (skirt)
- Plum jersey knit-3 Graces Tee, also New Look 6735 Tee from leftovers
- Black jersey knit Mighty Aphrodite Draped Tee
- Black boiled wool knit-Cardigan/Jacket
- Orchid stretch shirting-Butterick 5526
- Plum and orchid striped jersey (shirt)
- Gray cashmere wool suiting (pants)
- Black rayon challis with purple/orange trim-Hot Patterns Deco Vibe Delicious Dress
So my plans for next week is that if I work on anything, it will be one of the items that will NOT coordinate with the blue fabrics for the Endless Combinations plan, since that contest does not begin until November 15th.
I hope everyone is having a productive weekend...and used that extra hour for what else, more sewing!

Wow, looking at your top on the dress form I thought the neckline was really low. I looked back at the photo of the pattern and said well it is not low on the drawings. But then I see it on you and it is just like the pattern drawings indicated. So what does that mean? From dress form to person? Love the bag you did such a great job on it and the lining is perfect, as is the stitching! I remember the saying used to be "Don't carry a bag bigger than your head". Like everything styles come and go.
You really are doing well on your sewing plan. Love this top. I like the soft draping and dark neutral colour.
I am sooooo proud of you! You were worried that you wouldn't finish and here you are halfway done AND to top that off you are entering the Endless Combinations at PR too!
BTW, I feel the same way about big purses too...wouldn't know what the heck to do with a little one...what would I cart all my crap in! *LOL* You've made a very pretty one!
So cute! Love the top and the bag is awesome. And they are adorable together. So fun!
My goodness.. your productivity blows me away! I love both the top and the bag, you are an inspiration with the way you are moving through your plan!
Your new draped top is a wonderful addition to your wardrobe. I love the style - it's so interesting and looks great on you. The bag is fab - it looks like a very expensive designer piece - the zebra print fabric is lovely!
I love the top on you. I have this traced out and ready to go. I saw a rtw dress with with ruching on the bottom of both sides. It was very pretty.
The bag is certainly big, but very cool.
That's a great top. The drawstring adds a great detail.
Girl, you have been pumping them out. Kudos to you. I really like how this top turned out. Nice job, and I love the handbag.
I don't know how you do it. Only a few times I have made lists (not nearly as long as yours), and I don't think that I've ever made it to the end of the list. Other ideas come into my head, other items become more important, and the grand plan goes to pot. That top looks wonderful on you!
Amazing - look at all you got done - what's more you are following your plan AND sewing patterns which don't have pictures (that always gets extra points). I love the rouching and the drape around the collar and the bag is super fun. Great work!
My gosh you are productive! And all wearable, useful stuff too! The ruching (is this a word?) on the top is very flattering. You bag looks good too. I think bags are a paint o sew, so my hat is off to anyone with the patience to embark on anything more than a tote bag, lol!
I'm very impressed by how you made this plan and make it work. I am a disaster when it comes to plans like this. I always get distracted, or change my mind, over and over again. :-)
The top looks great!
Your top is lovely. Love the draping. Your bag--that is absolutely FABULOUS!
I love that top and its pattern! The bag is really cool too.
Thank you for the comment you left about my blue animal print jacket set. It is indeed very comfy to wear.
Ooo..that bag is cah-ute!!! I'm lovin' that top too!
I love watching your SWAP come into fruition! What great pieces to your wardrobe!
Your progress is impressive! Cool fabric choices for the big bag. I only find big bags silly if all you're carrying in them is a wallet and keys. Sadly, this is never the case for me.
